Camshaft and Crank Shaft position Sensor

I have 2004 4 Runner Sport V8 with 250 K miles. last night while driving it died. Took is to the Mechanic and was told that it was the CamShaft Position sensor and the Crank position sensor needed to be replaced.

I was quoted $ 500 with parts and labor which seems to be too much with a truck with that many miles.

I towed the truck back home and searched on line on location Of these sensors and how to replace them,

If someone have replaced these and has pictures and how it is to get to, that would be greatly appreciated,

Both sensors just magically died at the same time. I'm not buying it. Time to start hunting to see maybe what harness they share (if they do). I'd lean more toward some ground point on the engine harness has worked loose or another problem. These two sensors are just a coil of wire (magnetic pickup like an old tape player head). There's nothing really to "go bad" on them but to be an open. Better start looking for some harness damage, loose connector, corroded grounds, etc.

If I remember correctly there was another member on here that had the same issue. They replaced the timing belt recently and the camshaft sensor wire had been punctured. I would start there.

Had my crankshaft position sensor replaced because i did not get the harness tucked back in correctly after replacing timing belt and the wires worked their way out and rubbed on the crank pulley and severed. It was my fault and cost $400 to have it fixed.
