Can damage occur installing heavyweight coils before adding front & rear bumpers?

Hello all,

Probably a stupid question, but I was reading something on a vendor website I bought my OME coils from and it mentioned not to install if you didn't have extra weight or damage could occur.

I ordered bilstein 5100's for front and back a diff drop, and OME 2883 & 2891 springs for heavy weight as I will be installing a front and rear bumper.

Thing is, my bumper isn't set to ship until April. I wanted to go ahead and install my lift/wheels/tires but it sounds like maybe I shouldn't before getting my front and rear bumpers on? Any truth to that?

Not really, it will ride a little stiffer until the heavy bumpers are installed, but watch your tire pressure and you should be fine.

This is a nonissue. You’ll be fine.

I hope the 2891s treat you well. I ran them for several years and just added a swingout; I can already tell they will sag when I load up with gear for an outing.

I’m probably going to add airbags to them because I don’t want any more lift on my truck.

The only way I see damage occurring is if you shock coil plate is about rusted through. The extra heavier coils could bend those. However, 6 months or a year later they would have bent anyhow. Its probably why there is a disclaimer on them. Someone's frame was rotted and blamed the newer springs. No way could stiffer springs do any damage under normal conditions. Just a stiffer ride like the other users suggested.

The bilstein and heavy spring combo will ride stiff with no weight but will be perfectly functional. You'll need to make sure you don't over-extend the front suspension, and the perches on the front shocks may need moved up once you get weight on the front end.
