Can I fit this IKEA wardrobe in my 4runner?

I've tried to do some quick measurements... and I don't think I can?

BRIMNES Wardrobe with 2 doors, white, 303/4x743/4" (78x190 cm) - IKEA CA

I know with the rear seat bottoms, the cargo length is 65". Removing it adds what, maybe 5"? But I don't think the front passenger can go forward enough to fit it lengthwise?

I was thinking I could squeeze it in the side behind the passenger, on its side (20" wide, 30" tall). But length seems the main issue. And I think if I go at an angle, I'm not going to gain much length since it's basically a rectangular box?

Trying to pick up this used, assembled furniture and seeing if I can even transport it...

It’ll be possible if you drop the rear window. Place something between the furniture and the window sill to protect the surfaces.

Ah I always forget about the window! But also I recall that the "frame" of that window shouldn't handle too much weight on it?

Same here lol....I was thinking...ikea stuff will literally be falling apart the moment you hit any bumpy tracks. I was even going over in my head how he would reinforce it.

Are you buying this wardrobe pre-assembled and trying to transport home?

Are you buying it boxed? Is the box smaller than the assembled dimensions shown?

Agree, length is your main issue here.. in a perpendicular arrangement, the cargo length of 65" is too small, but there is more than 75" diagonally from the back corner of the rear seat bottom (seats down) to the other corner at the tailgate. If the side width is small enough (< ~10" it should fit??)

I've hauled an ikea wardrobe this size in my 4runner but it was new, and not assembled. it sat on it's side, on my centre console, nearly touching my dash. I can't imagine being able to make it fit assembled.

Do you have a uhaul dealer, home depot or somewhere else you can rent a small trailer from cheap?

If it's a short distance and weather permits, is there any reason you couldn't just let it hang out the back and use a bungee cord to hold the hatch down against it? I haven't done that in my 4Runner, but I've done it with long items in other vehicles lots of times. Just leave the your window down so the exhaust fumes don't get you!

It might fit (and you'll be able to close the hatch) if you tilt one end up once the piece is laying flat in the truck. Tilting one end up would add a few extra inches and it may be enough for what you need (ie. the hypotenuse in Pythagorean theorem).

Maybe place some padding and put on roof rails?

Also I have 30 year old Ikea dining chairs, wardrobe bed frame that still looks great both style and durability.

trick question OP. everyone who's ever tried to move ikea furniture ever in their life knows that wardrobe has no chance of survival or reassembly

It's particle board, not real wood, and even if it were I wouldn't be concerned. You have nothing to worry about. If it doesn't fit, roll the rear window down and drive on home.

I've never done this with my 4Runner, but if it came down to it for some sweet IKEA furniture...if it is still in a box I'd just strap it down the best I could in the back and leave the back door open and bungee it down. Assuming you aren't going to have to drive long distances to get it home.
