Can we do more than a 1 inch diff drop?

I want to know if we can drop the front diff more than the normal 1". It'd be great to get about another 2 inches if possible to decrease the CV angle. My buddy has a 3" drop on his 08' FJ with a 6" lift and he's still rocking the factory CV's. I'd look at mine but it's pouring and my skid plates are installed.

I'm thinking that there might be issues with the drive shaft hitting the steering rack.

I'm gonna keep my fingers crossed for a yes

There is another mount on the rear of the diff. Its that big 12mm hex. Basically, if you could drop that one as well, then you could do more than a 1". By lowering the front its only angling down the diff... I cant' remember if there is room or not for a spacer or not. Yes, if you did drop it more, you'd have to probably notch the crossember so the driveshaft could angle down.

Also, you sort of get a 2for1 when lifting an IFS... you do gain ground clerance simply by the angle of the a-arms. Dropping it back down is good for CV angles, but its pointless for ground clearance. If your looking for more space between the wheels and the body then a body lift is your best bet, plus it doesn't stiffen up your suspension, take all your downtravel, etc.

I agree with both posts. Physically you probably could, but it would be terrible. Remember, the farther down you drop the diff, the steeper the angle on your DS, so you may have lots of lift, but you stress your front DS really badly when you are in 4WD.

Differential will hit the crossmember if you lower it anymore than 1 inch. You will need to do a drop bracket lift if you want to do anymore than 1 inch and DB lifts are kinda stupid IMHO. No offense Baja Runner :)

Took a quick look and if the diff gets lowered any more than the 1" then the drive shaft flange will hit the steering rack.

I'm not looking for any more lift at all, I would just like to stop tearing the CV boots so often. I'm gonna do the Porche 930 boots when I get a chance. I'd hate to lower the front but I guess I will if push comes to shove.

Anyone wanna donate to the "Jon needs RCVs" fund? :jk:
