Can you buy a long block directly from toyota or what's the best reman shop?

I've searched on mcgeorge and Camelback but couldn't find an option to buy a long block (crate motor) anyone know or have experience doing so? If not what's the best reliable shop, the ones I know about like yota shop etc only do 3.4s and 22res. I heard it's very hit or miss going the jdm route, don't need one right away but my ocd likes to plan long term

Best bet would be salvaged yards or companies that recycle wrecked vehicles.

Go to your local dealer, they can get a long block for you. They might have to contact Toyota for local availability but shouldn’t be a problem getting a long block. Putting one together yourself isn’t that difficult. Just follow the shop manual for cylinder head install, set the timing, and seal her up. Shouldn’t take more than a few hours. That’s what I would do if couldn’t get a long block.

Sorry this is not correct. You cannot order a long block from Toyota. They absolutely do not offer one.

My good friend is a sr tech, and I have plenty of 1st hand info of him rebuilding blown motors, sometimes from bare block.

Also, a long block has had the heads installed already.

Car Care Nut did a video on a camry motor rebuild with a factory short block, yeah it's not a long block, but seems you can get one-if you are willing to wait and pay good money for it. Don't see why you couldn't do the same for any other motor in the line-up.

IMO the confusion here is the term, long block vs short block. Eddy above calls long block but describes short block (installing head).

How about rotating assemblies? Probably get away with a good gasket set and new over sized rings if nothing is bent or broken.

Why do you need one?

Complete motors are cheap and plentiful from low mileage salvage.

The 1GRFE is pretty much bullet proof, so there is no market for replacement motors, and it's performance is very modest (at best), so there is no market for engine swaps.

No, you can get all the parts and put it together. But you cannot buy a prebuilt one.

Also found what looks like possibly an assembled long block. When searching the pn, some sites says its NLA. No idea on the availability.

Figure about $500 to $600 for shipping.

However, if *you* (general opinion on forum) think the 1GrFE is slow, this conversion will make you feel like you are driving molasses.

I have a 93' D250 with the 5.9L I6 cummins - 160 HP, 400 ft-lb and it only weighs ~3500 lbs and is dog slow.
