Can you ID this Toyota OEM Stereo?

Hi Everyone!

First off I'd like to thank you all for the wealth of knowledge you've provided on this forum. I've found so much useful information here about my 4runner that I didn't know previously.

Recently, I've been searching and reading up on stock replacement decks that will fit in my Non-JBL 2003 4Runner. I know aftermarket stereos are better but I really want to preserve the natural aesthetics of the car as much as possible. I have an Android phone with a Dash/Windshield Mount that I would like to listen to through the car audio. A simple AUX port would be fine since the dock has connections for MicroUSB and a 2.5mm jack. I've found a lot of information and once I thought I might have a decent solution I found the attached picture. This looks a lot like many of the other replacement decks that would fit my 4Runner but it has one button that stands out. USB/AUX!!!! Searching the part number from the picture returns no results. Does anyone have any idea where this deck comes from?

My second option was to purchase the 11842 model deck that appears to be compatible. There's quite a few on ebay that are pretty inexpensive. I see it has a Disc/AUX as well as AM/SAT which could be nice in the future. Issue is I couldn't find any information on how to actually tie in to the AUX function. Does anyone have a link to a cable or whatever is necessary to use the AUX function on this deck?

This is what you see when you take out the stereo unit you referred to in your post, for 2006-2009 non-JBL models. The upper jack with a red arrow pointing at it is for power, the bigger lower one - is for antenna, the smaller one is for AUX. That's for the back of your stereo unit. As for the AUX input itself - it is in the central console storage in 2006-2009 models. As for the part numbers for AUX wire/ jack / input itself - try finding them here . Anyway, you may want to consider buying an Ipod/ USB/ Aux adapter from ebay (e.g. like this one), it's gonna cost you around $100 and you can keep your original stereo, it should be plugged to a standard CD changer port on any stereo unit, so no hassle with finding correct part numbers etc. You just have to find a place for the adapter itslef, such your glovebox or center console and run the wire from the unit accordingly.

So the stock stereo with the Disc/Aux button is no different than the one that only has a Disc button? Is that how the Aux function works on these decks, it just takes over the CD Changer functionality? How do you listen a CD if thats the case? Does the internal player still work? That seems a bit janky.

Ooops, I just noticed it has "USB/Aux" button there on your picture (and this unit is different from that being sold under the link your provided). All I said before applies to standard non-JBL units from SR5/ Sport trims for 2006-09 models, as in the picture below. Where did you get your picture from? Is it from 4Runner at all? Some UrbanRunner trim probably? As for the ebay link to the USB adaptor - most of them are activated via CD changer (DISC/AUX) button on a stock unit, I guess the same way you'd switch between AUX and DISC modes - by repetitive pressing. This way it should leave your internal CD fully functional. But I can't tell for sure and you would have to ask this question to one of the sellers, it would be best to send them a picture of your native unit to ensure a 100% compatibility. Please, share your findings.

Mine is the stock deck from an '03 4Runner. No Disc/Aux or AM/SAT, it's not even capable of MP3 playback. I tried to go the cheapo route and bought a tape adapter but it's unbearably awful.

I've only found one USB adapter that is Android friendly the others are all for iDevices. I did have the thought of getting one that was bluetooth capable. This would be sufficient and I suspect that since it would use bluetooth protocols that it would be compatible with either device regardless. I do worry about audio quality. I had a bluetooth deck in the past and it did sound fine but it disconnected frequently for no apparent reason and it was a pain to get it to reconnect. Does anyone have any experience with any of the bluetooth adapters out their that are compatible with the stock decks. I've been looking at the USA-SPEC BT35, the GROM USB2 (not bluetooth but Android capable), and the AudioVox MediaBridge. Are there any others worth considering?
