Cannot get the electrical connector off the starter!!

I have the 12v cable disconnected but I cannot for the life of me get the electrical connector off!

How the hell does it come off? I must have gorilla arms because I cannot grab it really good anyway? Is the tab on the bottom toward the ground? If so does it need to be squeezed or is it one of those goofy ones where you need to pull it away from the connector while pulling on it.

It's just a simple push tab connector I think, just like the ones in the engine bay. Maybe try cleaning it off, there might be road gunk stuck in there and not allowing the tab to release. Brake cleaner or carb cleaner works well if you have some laying around.

I ended up removing the two starter bolts so I could rotate it and get the connector off. Now I need to figure out how the hell to get this out of the truck...

If it's the same setup as mine, you cannot remove it without dismantling part of the subframe. I just rebuilt the starter while it was still in the engine bay. Difficult, but it worked.

I actually got it out using the method from Tim the tool man (his diy video). The contact and plunger I ordered are slightly different but I think they should still work fine. I'll post pictures of the differences later.

Oh and I used my cordless impact to get the bolts out after 45 minutes of dicking around with a ratchet. They both came right off with extensions and a swivel.

What a pain in the ass this job was. Here are my thoughts.

Remove the two starter bolts before you try to remove the black electrical connector if you have big arms like me. I could not get a hand on it with the starter still bolted in.

I used my cordless impact with about 16" of 1/2" extensions and a swivel to get the bolts out. I could not get them out any other way.

If you have 4wd the starter will only come out one way (check the diy video on the forums here, he shows you exactly how it has to come out).

And finally, I used this kit from ebay. I measured the plunger and it is slightly different. So was one of the contacts but they still work perfectly and it was only 9 bucks.

I just swapped the bolt, the difference in the new contact was a little shorter than the old one.
