Can't remove manifold with heater pipe

Getting ready to rebuild my 86 22R-E but can't remove the intake manifold because the heater pipe off the bottom wraps around the back of the engine, preventing me from pulling the manifold off the 2 studs on either end. What's the trick to removing it. The heater pipe is solidly attached to the manifold even after removing the 2 bolts on the flange.

If i understand right and my memory serves me right remove the head with intake and all stillattatched and once its on the bench/floor soak the hell out of it with wd40 or carb clener its prob stuck due carbon soak it for a while and try and wiggle it out

The FSM says to yank the whole schmear out at the same time, leaving the intake and exhaust manifolds bolted up to the head. If you've got a hoist or a strong friend or three, that's how I'd do it.

With the upper plenum pulled you should be able to get a slender screwdriver or pry bar between the pipe flange and the plenum mating surface? Don't worry about bending the flange a little bit, you can seal it up with RTV as long as it's not too warped.

Thanks fire runner and KidVermicious - from what you say the heater tube is removable from the manifold (I don't want to take the engine apart as I'm leaving that up to the machine shop), so I should be able to remove it with a larger hammer. The parts diagram in my repair manual shows that tube as part (not separated out) of the manifold.
