Capped vacuum line?

Hey all

So was looking around the engine bay on my 1997 4x4 today while working on replacing the brake master cylinder and noticed a vacuum line off the left (driver) side of the engine just below the evap box and the brake booster that looks like it has a metal plug stuck into it. I can't quite tell where it runs to - looks like maybe down to the transmission but it goes down by the crossmembers and have a hard time following it... was wondering if this is a normal thing or if someone messed around and capped it off. I looked through the FSM and could not really tell what that line is for. Has anyone seen this?

Unidentified Port

I have a 2002 that I purchased a few months ago. I located what appears to be a capped vacuum port at the back of the intake runners. I was wondering if someone could help identify it and whether or not it should be connected to something. Hopefully, the photos attached properly. Thank you.

That's a factory vacuum cap and is probably correct. Check the sticker on the hood for vacuum routing diagrams. Things changed a bit through the years.

Thank you. I checked the vacuum hose routing diagram on the underside of the hood as well as the maintenance manual that I have and neither show the port that I have. The vehicle has a slightly rough idle while stationary and in gear, otherwise its strong with no issues. I'm just wondering if this should be routed somewhere that would alleviate the rough idle.

On the earlier 4Runners, it does go to the small metal tube there, then over to the throttle body to a throttle opener diaphram - that the 01/02 trucks don't have.

My 01 matches yours, my intake not that clean.

Is anyones intake that clean? Looks like it was time warped out of 1997
TP1865 Make sure it has a proper tuneup before you look for other issues. Plugs(original oem), wires ,air filter and clean the MAF. Reset the computer and then see if you have a rough idle

Thank you for the information. I was lucky to have purchased the vehicle from the original owner who took very good care of it and had regular maintenance done. I'm hoping to pass it down to one of my kids, I have one driving and two more in the pipeline.

Why do that to a great 4Runner, New driver death sentence NNNOOO, J/K.
96Red taught daughter to drive, a yr maybe. Got it back for 2 yr, taught son yr or so got it back for 8-9 yr. Got wheeled by us all for 18 yr 374k + miles.
Got titled to son 6-2017 his for good, 2-2018 a bad suck azz driver bumped RF tire doing 70 mph, A headon into concrete, 150' slide on LF roof corner and hood did it in, ha. Son said ride of his life going down road upside down and a spark show coming your way. Little cut 1" or so on his head.

The Tank part !!
I don't know of any vehicle that would or could of done any better.
Try to paint a picture aye.
Everything in front of big front crossmember was bent dead against crossmember, winch + mount it all, bent 90*.
Sheet metal buckled oh yea everywhere.
Not a true door or hatch opening.
Slip yoke was pushed into no mans land, area we never use.

Tank part II >>>>>> I'm gettin there, ight.
Nary a glass broke !! OE except Windshield. Glass is glass here.
The doors did not open in a roll over, hell you couldn't pry but RR door open.
Windshield stayed square didn't shatter, broke in corner from contact.
Metal corner outer, part we wax cause of tree limbs, dented to inner structure thats it. 1/2-3/4".
The passenger compartment structure held up great, firewall didn't move, engine against it.
I was impressed by how well it did in the crash test !!! Dummy n all..
Can't go wrong passing it down !!!
