Car Trim Home T10 Questions

My wife has long complained about the Entune head unit in her 2014 SR5. I was thinking of getting her the Car Trim Home T10 unit and showed her video reviews on YouTube. She stopped when the guy was showing how he can get all his text messages and e-mail on the unit plus social media like Facebook, saying "I don't want that crap while I'm driving." She will never watch movies. She does listen to radio and tons of podcasts. She is big into geocaching and has a Cachly app on her iPhone which she uses while offroading. She asked if that could be downloaded and used on the T10? What else would she use on Car Play?

This would be part of the gift package for 30th wedding anniversary and her Birthday coming up. She got me a Colt M1911 Government in stainless with pearl handles for our 30th. I did get her a Crimson Trace laser sight for her Glock 42, but need to get her something else.

I had a T9 and a T10 for a time period and used primarily for CarPlay features. I am also an Apple music subscriber so it was seamless to use. I purchased to help control outboard amplifiers. Unfortunately the RCAs are less than 2v and the T10 only has a single set of RCAs+sub output for this purpose. I found some of the video streaming was limited due to the coding of the app not allowing it. It also had a weak radio Tuner if that is still your thing….basically pushes you to use only app based radio tuners including XM.

You really should join Sev’s FB page to get updates on this unit. Currently there are no units being sold due to chip availability and quality control issues. Many of these had the screens delaminate from the unit and numerous mic issues that pretty much make hands free calling unusable. That is why I returned both of mine. Guarantee someone will comment that they don’t have a problem….but it is enough of an issue that they completely stopped selling them until the factory gets these things ironed out.

He reports on the page that they are working on a new version that is styled similar to the 2020 OEM unit with the knobs at the bottom and more quick access buttons. I think it looks better and hopefully fixes the screen problems. Then it is just a question if they can fix the stupid internal mic and when they are going to be able to source chips to build it.

My take is that it is not “wife friendly” given all the quirks. Basically it is an Android tablet running on your dash and brings all the complexities you would imagine….app use is pretty unlimited. For my use, it was an easier upgrade path to stay OEM and add a DSP enabled amp. I would really like CarPlay in my 2015 but it is just not worth the compromise.

the Waze app would be handy for steering clear of cops?

I've actually been closely looking into the T10 units as well, but reading what Dude wrote, I'm thinking holding off for a bit for this new version might be the way to go.

Was and am really looking forward to using it for my Gaia GPS maps, so tired of squinting at my phone on the dashboard.
