Catalytic converter

Hi 4Runner community!
I had my catalytic converter stolen on my 98 Tacoma last year and I want to make sure it won't happen on my 2013 4Runner . Does it only happen on older Toyota models or it could happen on newer models too? If that's the case how I can protect myself.

Move to a better area, have full coverage insurance, skid plates might make access a little more difficult, and TE and LE models have a tubular brace that would make access more difficult.
