Causes of Engine Stall With Vehicle Impact

This past weekend I was on the road in some of the nasty weather driving from Utah to Montana and back. At some point the road got a little too icy and we spun off the highway and hit a fence with the rear left rear corner. We drove right out and only ended up with a small dent in the bumper (which luckily is already dented in the same spot).

The engine stalled on impact, so I was wondering what would cause this and if there's anything I should look into that could've potentially been damaged. It started up fine and drove the remaining 200 miles without a problem.

I remember this happening just one time in a previous 3rd gen I owned when I hit a speed bump going way too fast with a worn out front suspension, but that's the only time it ever happened.

Just a wild guess but maybe some type of fuel shut-off setup perhaps?

I thought about that, but I haven't seen anything about it being on these 4Runners. And the vehicles I've read about having it equipped have mentioned having to reset it after an impact so that they could start the engine up again.

I wonder if it was just hard enough to short something temporarily.
