CBI 4th gen Hybrid rear bumper

So I've been getting a few questions about my rear bumper which you can find on my build http://www.toyota-4runner.org/4th-gen-t4rs/140135-shallcallhimtim-build.html so I thought I would build a thread for it.

So in November when CBI had my truck to design and fit the 4th gen ditch lights, Nathan and I started talking about a light weight rear bumper for the 4th gens. Now most of yall know that there is a big stupid cross member in the rear making it really hard to get a close fitting high clearance rear bumper without cutting the cross member out. It was time to beef up my rear end anyway since I kept getting rear ended and backed into during snow storms up here.

This bumper is super light weight! I would call it maybe 80lbs max! I can curl this thing with one arm and put it on the truck by myself. It is all 120wall tubing so this thing will take a hit. From what I know there isn't a swing out designed for this but that isn't really that hard. Im actually about to start building one here soon just waiting on some parts.

The main reasons for this thread is for feedback and ideas I can share with CBI so they can get this into production. Please share any input you guys have! Thanks!!

That is a good question, since I have the only one it really hard to say but I would guess $600 range?

I like it a lot! The only 2 things i would say is 1 to fill in the corners so it gives it a little more of a finished look and a little less of a tube style. Maybe just some filler plates? 2nd is a swing out tire carrier which i know was discussed when you originally posted this up. Other than that i think it's great alternative and weight saving option for a rear bumper! I wish CBI would put these int production so we can get a better idea of pricing, and with a swing out ! Cause i'm pretty i'll be getting one in the near future!

^ I really think the swingout changes it! Mine is going to look a little different since I just want a simple arm. I'm going to talk to Nathan about pricing this week and we can get a list of people who are interested cuz he likes to have a nice base to work from if this is to go into production

I think the idea of a simple swing out is a really good idea as well! It would be cool if they could offer different options as far as how you want the swing out...

That could be an option. It would be custom though cuz their swingouts are a production like the bumpers

A hybrid front much like the 3rd gen is in the works hopefully in a few weeks so keep your eyes open for that info.

Yes they will! I live just up the highway from CBI so I'm close for testing and fitting. Smashed my front end on a street sign when I hit some ice in January. The front will match up nicely with the rear.

Awesome man talk about convenience haha! Yeah that sucks i saw that in your build thread,,, I know it may be wrong but every time i go wheeling a little part of me hope's my front bumper will magically get ripped of while not damaging anything else of course so then i can go home and say "well i guess i'll just have to buy a new one honey":shrug: I can't wait to see what they come up with for the front Hybrid bumper, but for sure this will be what i'm going with for the rear!

Yeah, I am, desperately. But I'm considering all options. I'd like this one better with more plate, less dimple dye and less use of the OEM bumper - I want a steel one because mine OEM one is F'd up. I'm looking at weld together kits too.
