CBI Covert Baja bumper for 5th Gen

Who’s running one of these? I’ll be picking up and 10k winch and I’m trying to decide between CBI covert Baja and the SSO slimline and I haven’t been able to find much on the Covert Baja in the way of experiences with it. I have no experience with either CBI or SSO.

Both are about the same price with shipping. Both have option to powder coated. Both appear around the same weight. SSO has the stage two high clearance add-ons, which I may do. Doesn’t appear like CBI offers a high clearance add-on. You can choose between 20” or 30” light bar cut out with SSO versus only 30” cutout with CBI.

Anyone have anything they want to add related to either of these two bumpers?

I would (and did) pick the one that's been around and is tried and tested.

I'm sure the CBI one is fine, but SSO has had years to work out the kinks. Seems like an easy choice to me if prices and lead times are comparable.

Both are high quality, reputable companies. I don't think you could go wrong with either. Pick the one you either like the looks/style you like better. Another way to decide is to contact both companies and check on their lead times. Whoever can get it to you faster wins your business.

I had narrowed it down to the SSO slimline and stumbled upon the CBI. Just want to make sure all my options have been weighed. I not sure about being a guinea pig for the Covert Baja bumper (not at my own expense anyway �&#56898. You are right, tried, tested and proven is the way to go.

Absolutely, SSO and CBI are both very reputable and either would likely more than fit my needs. I just couldn’t find enough about the Covert Baja in the way user experiences as I would have liked to sway me that direction.

I was able to find a good amount of info on the SSO slimline which helped to make my decision easier. I also used a 10% off coupon for SSO that was a bonus.

Not CBI

Cannot recommend CBI. Take your hard earned dollars elsewhere.
I have the covert model for my 5th gen.
Was lied to several times through the process of buying and receiving it.
No online support for install.
No instructions on mounting a light bar, that's supposed to just fit.
No support from them post sale.
Arrived months late and damaged.

Cannot recommend CBI for anything.

Not to throw another in the mix, but I'm EXTREMELY happy with my C4 Lo Pro. I first wanted the SSO, but the more I saw them vs. the C4, I preferred the fit and look of the C4. The bull bar is very tight into the truck and the winch openings are a bit more discrete imo.

I compared C4 and SSO before comparing the SSO to CBI. I liked the look of the C4 lo pro, but I didn’t care for having to bend the AC line during installation for proper fitment with a winch. There is also no option to powder coat from C4. I didn’t care for the use of carriage bolts for the radiator support brackets. I read a couple accounts of the winch line rubbing on the fairlead cut in the bumper that couldn’t be remedied by adjusting the fairlead. This is mostly just nitpicking on my part. I know C4 puts out great products, as evidenced by the large following they have. Plenty of people happy with their C4 lo pros. Different strokes for different folks.

I went with the Warn bumper. Got it for $709 at my local 4 wheel parts store. Came powdercoated with no damage and had it in 2 days vs 3-4 months of lead time. Fit and finish is excellent and I love the simplistic functional look of it.

Geez I thought I was the onlyone with the worst experience! Same issue here, I’d have definately had gone with some other company. Long story short made an order 11-28-20, received final outstanding item today 5-26-21, after damaged/used product, wrong hardware, insufficient hardware...etc! Google reviews are legit.
