CBI diy plate bumper

broken wrench

Trying to get new CBI plate bumper built for Jambo, but knee injury and family have had me side lined. Progress so far is slow, lots of trimming to make it fit my abused runner. Kit is well made and thought out, would be perfect for a virgin runner thats not all twisted. I have always felt the tube bumpers left to much open space,so here we go. Pic with old bumper.

Plan to do a rear plate bumper from CBI also.

I bought the option for main hoop and side bars to protect fender edge and hood, not sure I will use side bars.

Planning to use an XD9000i but just fitting other winchs to see how they fit in cradle. The XD will require grill trimming, but with weight of truck and gear it's the right one for the job.

FINALLY . i been dying to see someone buy one and put it together. cant wait to see when its done. thanks for the step by step as well. it will help many decided if its something they can tackle.

Well as luck would have it, I ended up with a 1/4 off. I truly suggest if you think your runner has been hit or abused tack it all together FIRST !! I made some major welds too soon, so no going back to trim it up. It would also have been a lot of work to fix the gap, so I have to put that out of my mind. THIS IS NO WAY ANY FAULT OR DESIGN ISSUES ON CBI's PART !!

Here it is all tacked with exception of previous full welds, going to go back and finish it up this weekend. And no extra parts !!

looks awesome. i just realized your 3.0 auto. i am also 3.0 auto and wheeling is its main purpose. im not SA or anything just LT IFS. any pictures of the 4.7 case outside and inside the cab? is the 4.7 to much for the brakes because i can hardly hold mine at times with stock 4low and 4.88 gears on 32s

Yeah, it will drive through the brakes more so when it had 88 components. I have since done e-locker rear axle swap and t-100 calipers in front with taco booster/tundra master. It will still drive through but takes a lot more and you feel the front end lift up hard.

your the best. thanks for the awesome pictures.
you have to take the transmission apart to remove the chain driven t case? also do you have any transmission overheating issue? i have heard of this since you loose some trans fluid since the two are shared.

i am interested in your brake set up but im still IFS so i guess i can only do the taco booster and tundra master.. i havent heard of anyone running this set up. is it all bolt on? 1st gen taco and 1st gen tundra? i also have retrofitted an elocker in the rear of my stock axle

Yes, you have to pull pan and valve body to put the adapter plate parts in. the rest of the case comes out the back. I pulled mine out because I used and custom cut TC and to rebuild it, it had 350+ on clock with some hard wheeling abuse.

No over heating, but I add extra fluid to tranny very slowly usually 1/2 quart. If you want extra insurance against it add an extra tranny cooler.

the brake setup was a bolt on deal, the master can be a taco. I used what was on shelf just to see if I could \,both from 2000-2005 trucks. I did the full e-locker housing for width and bigger brakes, the t-100 calipers are nice but clamp hard. I think taco calipers would balance out the setup better, I plan to put prop valve in later to fine tune brakes/nose dive.

I like your ARB, if you ever want to sell it I need one for my sons runner

Sweet! I seriously considered the CBI bumper. I really like their rear bumper as well. I look forward to seeing yours completed. That is a badass runner BTW.

i wanna read up more on your build. do you have build page. its not often if at all i see any 3.0 auto crawlers. yours is sweet. the arb wont be coming off ever i hope lol.

It is far from done, but ready for Jambo. I will have to rework some spots I don't like and put grill bar on. I am happy with it, now let's see how it holds up.
