Change trans fluid...or no?

I'll start with saying I changed the fluid in my 94 Cherokee at 120k miles on original fluid and a week later it started to have slow gear changes.

I don't want to wreck another transmission on my 2006 T4R with 185k miles, but I can't help but feel something should be done. Pretty sure the previous owner kept up with maintenance so should this be done?

Toyota states it's a 'lifetime' fluid, but I can't help but think their definition of lifetime is around 200k.

This has been well covered. OP, your 1st problem with the cherokee was... it was a cherokee.

With all that said , you'll find at that mileage best to do a drain & fill ! DON'T flush it ! Seems most have had big problems when doing that after that long . Sure you'll read & see . Good luck ! Did my son's 05 @ 103k & they tried to tell me WS didn't need it but after noticeable shifting better .

I can say the same. Just changed my new to me 05 v8 4wd @ 137k (front/rear/transfer case / and transmission fluid)

The dirtiest fluid was the transmission! As much as I'd like to think Toyota is using lifetime fluid, I know mine was really dark at only 137k. No regrets draining and filling new Type WS
