No one dies, but the 140 AMP alternator fuse self destructs................a fate worse than death........................

Why not just change it out while running, making sure that the positive and negative do not touch each other or anything metal when doing so?

I still have the original battery and it seems to be ok. How long can they last? Also should you just get the dealer to install another battery or are there better options?

Mine lasted over 7 years. Depends on how you’ve treated it and the climate you’ve been operating in. Car batteries don’t like extremes in temps or state of charge (Overcharge, deep discharge). I’ve got friends in Vegas that expect to replace theirs every 2-3 years. Sorry to say, you cannot buy the original Panasonic battery even from a dealer. Replacement really depends on what you’re looking for. You can get an acceptable replacement from Walmart, Sears, Costco, batteries plus, pep boys, etc., or you can look for an upgraded battery to suit your needs like an AGM or oversized. I ended up getting a Standard Costco replacement that has been fine for 2.5 years so far.

After removing the battery, I've learned that if you leave the truck at ON for about 15sec before trying to crank then it should turn over and stay running.
