I need to change my EBC 7000 series Green Stuff pads out soon, however Toyota rotors are still very good and no pulsing or vibration when braking. I have an old EBC 7000 series Green Stuff pad set that are about 25% worn I took off when putting new Toyota rotors on (I wanted new rotors and pads at the same time, but kept the used pads).

So my question is can I just have my rotors lightly shaved and use the EBC pads I had left over from the other brake job? These pads are about $100/set so if I can save myself a little I'd like to use the pads since they're only 25% used on the existing Toyota rotors. Is that safe to do, pros/cons and or recommendations?

If your rotors not warped or pitted you do not need to turn them, just replace pads. GL

Just to confirm. I can use the pads I used to have that are only 25% worn on the existing Toyota rotors? They're in great shape. No pitting, warp, groves, etc. I've just always heard stories about matching the sets together and lightly shaving rotors and scuffing pads.

A lot of people get away without grinding there rotors. The truly correct way to do a brake job is to grind them though. You're already using used pads, so I suppose its up to you. I personally would have then ground, but I am super OCD, so I likely would never use those pads either even though they are only 25% worn.

I was thinking the same thing but may scuff up the rotors to knock off any glaze or anything from the existing EBC 7000 Green Stuff pads. As long as rotors are within spec I'm keeping the same Toyota rotors on, if not I'll buy new rotors and maybe new pad set like last time. Existing EBC pads/rotors on front have about 26,000 miles. I'm not squealing with pads yet, and would say I still have about 6000 - 8000 miles max left on those pads. The EBC pads don't last long, but they're easy on the rotors and have good stopping power for a daily driver without towing.

How often does everyone else flush their brake fluid? Mine was last done about 31,000 miles ago.

31,000 miles for flushing brake fluid seem little early, but while at changing pads it is good time to flush it. I wouldn't do it yet. Your call.

Brake fluid used to always be recommended to be changed every 2 years. It's hygroscopic, so it being used (mileage wise) usually isn't the issue, it's the fact that it absorbs water.

People rarely replace it that often though and as long as it isn't nasty looking, it's probably fine. Hard use (boiling the fluid) decreases its life, but normal driving won't do that.

You should be fine. if rotors surface is good i would just sand the pads to get a flat surface and than install. after a few drives the pad should match the rotor face profile.

i would also recommend replacing brake fluid every 2 years or when the brake fluid has a max of 2% water in it. Seems like a lot of people have front calipers seizing.might just be from not getting all the old contaminated fluid out of the calipers. after bleed the brakes and getting new fluid in the system, i would remove each caliper and crack the bleeder screw and compress the piston/s to get any excess old brake fluid out that is trapped in the caliper. would always recommend doing this on vehicles with calipers that have pistons on both sides of the caliper.
