Chatter in reverse?

So tonight I was backing in my driveway and goosed the throttle a bit and heard a pretty awful chatter for a split second.

I could not tell if it was from the tranny or the rear end. I put it in drive and goosed the throttle and it didn't do it.

It is zero degrees tonight in WI. I also have a Truetrac in the rear.

I've gunned it before in reverse and never heard that chatter before.

I think tomorrow I'll inspect the rear diff fluid to make sure it is full. The fluid was changed with regular gear oil (what Eaton recommends) about 6 months ago when I swapped it in and to my knowledge, I have zero leaks.

Truck makes no other noises and drives great. When I installed the 3rd member with the truetrac (pulled from my 99 donor vehicle) everything looked brand spanking new. I couldn't believe how well the ring and pinion gears were.

Not sure if the sound could have came from the tranny?

In the mean time, I'll take it easy.

Could have been the "known" rattle in the tcase. Mine and several others have reported of a chattering/rattle noise in that region when coming from a stop. It's either slight play in the chain or the selector forks moving a bit.
