Cheapest Tires, Service Nationwide

I'm pretty sure I'm not the first to figure this one out, but once I found out which tires I was going to get I started shopping around and found a solution to my two biggest concerns: Price and service when traveling.

I found 275/65/18 Duratracs ranging from $289 to $244. The lowest price tires were close to my house in TX, but they had limited stores in the areas I travel the most, in and around Colorado and the 4 Corners.

I would hate to purchase a tire protection plan when my most likely place to need it would be someplace I couldn't use it.

Wal Mart as we know has shops everywhere, but their tires were priced at $277. Solution: Wal Mart Price match. I picked up 4 Duratracs for $244 a piece, saved a total of $160 dollars with the mail in rebate and now have the assurance that I can get a tire replaced/fixed more quickly and easily with the protection warranty when I'm thousands of miles from home.:rockon:

That's assuming you can find a WalMart monkey who knows how to repair a tire. There's a reason their prices are low.

This pursuit of the lowest price at the expense of quality products and service is part of what's killing our economy. WalMart sucks, people, stop giving them money! Pay an extra dollar or two for decent products and service, will ya?

I agree Wal Mart has many short comings, I had to do a whole case study on them for economics in college. That being said, with a tire running $250 a pop that has a high likelihood of me trashing one at some point down the road, I would like to get it repaired/replaced quickly and at minimal cost and get down the road. It's the same tire sold at Wal-Mart as is sold at NTB, and if I can save over $100 at the point of purchase and know that I can get it replaced for free almost anywhere, then that's worth the price of admission for me.

I don't worry about Nationwide coverage. And I do a LOT of traveling outside of NH.

I'm NOT a fan of ANY of the National Tire chains. They all have the same business model....Mechanics work on commission. That means that they are more likely to FIND something wrong with your vehicle (even though there isn't) every time you bring it in for rotation. I've stopped going to any of the national chains years ago. I can tell you story after story after story of how they systematically rip people off.

In the long run it'll be cheaper to find a good trustworthy local mechanic. I haven't found the good trustworthy national chain yet.

Man, I think the only way I'd let someone from walmart touch my car is if I was stuck in the middle of nowhere and it was my only option. Discount Tire and Costco are both pretty well represented nationally. Then there's Sears. Sears is about as low as I'd go.

I bought my last tires from the Firestone store. They have a few different logos around the country, so good coverage nationwide. Reasonable prices and service.

you guys must be buying tires in factory size...

i know for sure costco won't bother selling anything other than factory sizes.

tire stops, discount tire are willing to let you play.
