Check engine light and scan gauge showing “codes cleared”

When I plug the scan gauge in, it shows the regular menu for 5 seconds and then without pressing anything, the screen changes to “code cleared” with no buttons responding. Happens with car running and when turned off. Same scan gauge worked fine before but it has been a couple years since I used it.

Sounds like it glitched. Borrow one from whatever auto parts chain is nearby and verify that.

The button that clears codes may also be stuck in or broken causing your issue.
