I don't get all the comments about what a waste and why would you do that. That things a rusted out POS. It didn't have a hatch on it to start, probably the only usable part someone needed.

It would have just been crushed anyway, at least they had some fun with it.

My drivers side OEM lbj just failed with less than 30k on it. Hate to be a buzz kill but it actually happens.

Frankly I'd rather see it parted out. I thought these demo derbys are for Ford Explorers and Tahoes. Using a Japanese SUV in one of these things is just doing it wrong.

Seriously. The conclusion I came to was that the 35s + me over-tightening the lbj bolts on the drivers side led to the bolts shearing when i took a right turn at about 10-15 mph. I also had removed these lbj bolts everytime i swapped a cv axle & never used new bolts. Going to stock up on these $1 bolts now to prevent this from ever happening again.

That looks exactly like what I envision happened to my rig before I bought it.

This happens where I live (in quebec). While this is saddening, you often see tons of salt on the road from november to april where this happens, so a lot of older vehicles suffers from severe rust or rust-related problems.

Working and roadworthy 4runners go for a pretty high price here in quebec compared to other SUV of the same years, and they sell pretty fast. My guess is that this particular vehicle was not road worthy anymore due to rust or being in storage for more than 12 months, which call for a special inspection.
