Checking this out in 2 hours...

Under body pics... all I could get, phone died on my 30min test drive. How bad does it look? Didnt look to bad to me... just lots of surface rust. Settled on 7k.

From what I could tell it had all the fluids changed, new brakes and lines, trans didnt slip(i got on it a little), all electronics worked, no vibrations, 4wd hi and low worked, new springs and struts, its faster than I thought it would be and newer tires.

Congrats! Make sure you pay special attention to the rust where the LCA on passenger side right next to muffler is attached to the frame, easily fixed if there is any porforation.
 
I ended up paying 7k for it, he wouldint budge. He kinda realized he screwed up on the price when I got back from the test drive of 40min. He got so many emails(he showed me) and over 10 phone calls..

The rust on the opposite lower control mount next to the gas tank is VERY concerning. That's more than surface rust. In the one close up it shows some holes coming through on the frame itself. The weld on that mount is pretty bad too. There's more than a couple pictures on the forum of that mount breaking off. Most have the rust on the muffler side but judging by the condition of the gas tank skid, it looks like that side got the worst of it.
 
Truck it self looks good. I would of never paid 7k personally. And he should of sold it for what it was listed. Doesn't matter who's fault. Let's put it this way, I got my truck in NJ and my underbody doesn't look anything like this one. Infant no rust on underbody at all. Few rust spots did show up on the body it's self.

From experience. The rear quarter panels are known for it and the rocker panels closes to the front wheels. And under the door weather strip


But nothing a wire wheel can't fix. !
 
Im gonna pass then... You guys know more than I do. I really dont want to mess with all that rust. My first intentions was to buy a car from the south and have it shipped up here and this one just so happen to pop up local to me.

I'm confused, did you end up buying it or not?

To me, that looks like about the same amount of rust that mine has. Is there rust that needs to be addressed, absolutely. Does it look like it will fail any time soon? Probably not.

If you do buy it, I would definitely address it though as I'm doing with mine. I think too many people see any amount of rust and they automatically assume it's a total loss. There are so many variations of how serious the rust is, the only way to really tell is to grind it away and see how the base metal looks. If you start grinding and just more and more rust appears, then you are in trouble (kinda). What I have found with mine is on face value, especially to those who live out west, mine looks terrible. In reality though (after starting to address it), it is not bad at all. It truly is outer surface rust that just needs to be knocked off, cleaned up and re-sprayed.

My gas tank shield looked just like this one (terrible). After about 20 minutes of grinding and cleaning, the base metal is perfectly fine. I spray a couple of coats of rust reformer on it and it is as good as new.

Having said all that, I would have never paid 7k for a truck that did need a lot of rust to be addressed. I'm only doing it on mine because I got the truck for free from my brother minus the $1,000 I paid to have it shipped back to Wisconsin. I'm in it about $2300 now and its awesome! I still have more rust to address but the frame is still VERY solid. Every weekend I'm addressing another area and eventually the whole underside will be cleaned up and restored. I will have no problem getting many years out of it well before the frame ever becomes an issue.

Before even seeing the undercarriage pictures, my first thought was, "you found that in Detroit"
Rust looks severely progressive. Even with attention, it appears too far gone to avoid serious issues in the future.
