Chiropractor Settlement Amount?

I know some of you (probably most of you) at one time or another dealt with insurance companies because of an acccident. I was rear-ended hard a little over a month ago and have been going to the Chiropractor's office 3x a week since. The treatments definitely have helped and I'm probably ready to stop going soon.

My question is what's a reasonable amount to ask for from the insurance company for the "inconvenience"? This includes the discomfort I've suffered, gas money, etc. I would say total times I went to the chiropractor must have been around 20-25 times.

I imagine that you can only ask for what you can prove, such as doctor's bills, any testings done (x-rays), days off from work, gasoline receipts, etc.. Also, i am not sure how insurance will respond to Chiropractor...since to some, this is considered non-standard medical care. Did you visit a spine physician (orthopedic or neurosurgery)? Any MRIs?? Those data may be more helpful in getting your case reimburse.

Someone who's car I hit once in a very minor acc. hired a lawyer and tried to contact me.

They called and asked what my coverage was.

I said you can write a letter to my insurance company.

I never heard from them again.

My aunt who works in insurance said cases involving back pain almost never go to juries and when they do the settlement payout is less than $5k.

I was in a really bad head on car accident back in 2005. Herniated a disc in my back. Now have chronic back issues. Legal issues ongoing as their insurance is claiming "act of god" saying that the woman who hit my friend and I had something happen to her (heart attack, stroke, diabetes blackout etc etc) which then caused the accident. I have yet to have a decent night's rest since then and am in constant dull pain. Not to mention that I have over $70k in medical bills piling up because it's still on going. All I want is them to pay the bills and be done with it. That would be heaven.

I am not totally sure about incidents involving autos but for homeowners it is typically 3.5 times the medical bills. So if your total out of pocket expenses for medical care are $2,000 then they would most likely offer you around $7,000 as a total settlement. The only variable part in a settlement is typically the "pain and suffering" part and that varies depending on what happened to you and how permanent it is. Usually, the more permanent the damage the higher the settlement.

I wanna say I got around $6k. Same type situation as OP. Got read ended at 25 mph or so and had to go to physical therapy for a few months. I hated being "that guy" but at the same time, I was hurt, my new M3 was fuct, and having to go to the dr a lot was a real pain in the ass. I was much younger when it happened and I was thinking like $30000!!!! but reality hit and I took what they offered after a little negotiation on my part. I don't like dealing with lawyers.

The guy pushing was claiming in an ongoing lawsuit, just a few weeks before this video was taken that he was 100% disabled and in constant pain because of some kind of accident. He was suing for all kinds of damages.

I don't know if the lady whose car I rear ended (it was a super minor accident with no on-scene injuries) was really hurt after the fact or just looking for some free Cyro sessions and I will never know.

Juries are wise to guys like the one above and if you are "just experiencing" broad backpain you may be in for a disappointment when trying to settle for big $$$$.

As [MENTION=2]Thai[/MENTION] said, and in this case would know better than myself, have you seen an actual "real" back doctor about this issue?

Do you have any slipped discs or other major ailments?


I definitely feel for those affected by bad accidents, a friend of mine was rear ended by a semi truck and had to do traction and all kinds of other horrible stuff because of it. :keyboard:

It's total crap. I think they have no case, but they're trying whatever they can. Meanwhile my credit is being totally f'd. It's such BS. We have insurance for a reason. If people didn't make unsubstantiated claims, nothing like this would ever happen.
