Those deaths are a tragedy.
I found it interesting that so many people do not understand that brakes heat up and fail under repetitive stops. I believe what happens is the car accelerates out of control, the driver brakes lets off brakes again repeatedly trying to get it to stop. I'm sure it slowed down the first time but wouldn't come to a stop. The brakes then become non-functional and useless. I think you would probably have to do a controlled crash. Brake as hard as you can and once it starts to speed up again -crash.

The brakes are by far more powerful than the engine. The brake will overcome full throttle and bring the car to a stop. Once it is stopped the driver SHOULD be able to figure out what to do from there ex: turn the key off, put it in neutral ect...
All of these cases are bullshit and the fault of the driver. Chalk one up to Darwin.

I'll take my auto 4wd any day over a standard. That is until you get into a car standard all the way.

Evidently it is considering how many people had issues with it. Pressing the clutch will disengage the motor and a manual shifter will always be connected to the trans whether through linkage or the stick, automatics seemed to have strayed away. It's ok you don't like manuals, i don't blame you.

Unintended Acceleration. Also known as pressing the gas when you think you are pressing the brake.

Everyone remembers the "deathtrap Audis" of the 80s. Hardly anyone remembers when the NHTSA ruled that these were "Pedal Misapplication Issues" caused because geezers used to putting their Rockports on Caddy pedals spaced a yard apart couldn't deal with the heal and toe capable spacing on their brand new entry level German-o-cars.

I've seen videos on that on TruTV. Sounds like AARP and old people need to get a class action lawsuit going on. Sue for all those times that "unintented acceleration" made them drive through the front of a store. Ha!

It's a fairly true statement unless you run out of fluid in the master cylinder. So remind me how it is dumb? It was a joke but by no means is it dumb, considering unintentended cant really happen when you have a means of disengaging the motor with a pedal.

You're saying its somehow more difficult to pop an auto trans in neutral than it is a manual?

When the pedal is floored, it's alot harder to pop a manual tranny out of gear than an auto... but there still is a clutch, and a key...
But wait...
I wonder what the odds are that a manual transmission car will get "unintended acceleration" (BS) AND have an empty clutch master cylinder.... you'd have better odds at winning the powerball....
