Clicking/Grinding when front RH hub engaged

Hey Guys,
I've got a number of issues with my 2nd Gen that I need to get sorted to I can put it on the market.
The main one is as follows:
Last time I went wheeling I was doing a rocky track and reckon I lifted a wheel and heard a big crunch. I was having a fair crack at the time, was really struggling to get up. Assuming a CV joint, I cut my losses and reversed down the hill. With 4wd engaged I was getting a clunking/grinding noise from the front end. To my ear it sounded like the front right (drivers - Australia) side.
I got down under the car and could feel a bit of movement in the driveshaft where it goes into the back of the hub.
I still thought it was most likely the CV joint so I bought a whole drive shaft and got it installed.

Now, it is still clunking. I have narrowed it down to only when the right hub is engaged. In 2wd, If I have the left hub engaged and the right disengaged there is no noise.
I also believe it clunks/clicks once every wheel revolution.

When I jack up the front and spin the wheels in 4wd, they rotate normally and no noises.
When I have the hubs in but in 2wd you can hear it....I can spin the RH wheel and it takes a while for the left wheel to start spinning. But I can actually hear the noise sometimes, but it's definately more prominent when driving (slowly of course).

Has anyone got any idea what it could be? Any thoughts would be grearly appreciated.

yeah manual hubs.

nah i haven't pulled it apart. is it hard to do?
I only just had time to work out when it's making the noise but hopefully this week ill have a bit more time to work it out.
what could be broken in the hub to make that noise tho?

There is a seal where he CV axle meets the back side of the steering knuckle. It's part of the CV axle. Recently on mine, that seal was bad. It allowed a bunch of junk in to the bearings and on the shaft. The shaft gott pitted and rusted pretty bad in a matter of only a few months. It made a noise similiar to how you describe. Replaced the CV and the noise was gone instantly.

mine started immediately after the rock step incident, and I've also replaced the whole driveshaft, including upper and lower CVs.

maybe something broke off in the hub, possibly a circlip or something?

is there any way to isolate the problem without pulling the hub apart?
when doing the hub, is it just normal high temp grease I need?
