Climate control goes craaaazy?

2006 Limited. Climate control is misbehaving.

I try to keep the temperature at 23 degrees Celsius.
All the settings are set to Auto.
With these settings I get all king of air blowing from the ducts. Sometimes it blows VERY hot air, and it thinks that it needs a lot of it. The fans are 3 bars out of 4. And other times it's just one bar and the air is slightly warmer than my hands. Sometimes I need to lower the temp to 21 degrees because I can't resist how hot it is. And other times I am freezing.

Is it the temp sensor that could malfunction? Where do I find it?

I also noticed that AUTO setting will never blow air through the center ducts, only side ones.

P.S. The car is warm already, and driven for at least 30 min when this happens. Temp needle is a bit below the middle of the temp scale (has been always like that).

Yes temp sensor is unplugged or failing. It's the little holes that are directly under your ignition switch about 10 to 12 inches down. It will be close to the bottom of the dash with two little slits so air can be sucked in. Mine did this when I forgot to plug it back in. Temps were all sorts of wonky, too hot, too cold and everything in between!

I've spoken with two family members who each own Toyota's. One has a Camry and the other has the Sienna. Both members state that when you switch A/C to Auto mode, it changes blower speed to max and air does not blow out of front vents. I'm assuming the purpose is to obtain the user defined cabin temperature as soon as possible. they also state that these Toyota's also really crank out the heat. The owners manual also describes how the Auto setting works if not mistaken.

I do find in my 07' Limited that the A/C system really cranks out the heat. So much so that I leave the temp setting at about 68 deg. I was screwing around with the temp settings last week and I could hear the blend door actuator motor incrementally opening/closing the blend door with each push of the temp button from Lo setting up to about 72 deg. Any temperature setting in the range of 72 deg to Hi seems to make no difference with respect to heat output. Not sure if temperature sensor is acting squirrely or what.

It's been well below freezing up here in Chicago and I do have heat output so i won't be screwing around with the system until spring.
