I like how they put the cones out. You know, so nobody will miss the spill on aisle 3.

On a serious note, talk about being at the wrong place at the wrong time. I hope the driver isn't too badly injured.
 
Damn... that remind me that I should store some fresh underwear in my 4Runner to be always prepared!
 
I live in rock/mudslide country, so this is a reality I've had to deal with. It's not bad at all in the day time. You can see the mountain slowly giving way, with plenty of time to stop. Where it gets seriously hairy is as at night. The initial telltale movement is all happening up high, out of the field of view of your headlights. So at night your first warning is when a beach ball sized boulder tumbles out in front of you... no fun at all.
 
These rocks where huge and the folks were really lucky. sometimes a soccer ball size boulder is enough to cause serious carnage. They have metal wire mesh on some slot canyons around colorado.

It's Highway 62 between Medford and Crater Lake, just east of where the highway crosses Lost Creek Reservoir. The area is a big cut where the highway drops down towards the bridge. I've driven it many times as it is the route between my home and where my dad lives.

The rocks didn't fall around the 4Runner like it kind of appears in the photos. There are some sharp corners there and the driver came around the corner and the boulders were already in the road. He swerved and missed the first one, then hit the second one.

I haven't heard any more about the condition of the driver/passengers, but they were transported to the hospital.

Thanks. I've actually drove that road once when heading up to Crater Lake as part of a return trip from running the length of Oregon's Hwy 101. I lived in eastern Oregon at the time. There are plenty of opportunities for similar circumstances to occur here in Colorado and serves as a good reminder.
