Hey all, my first thread here. I had the bug for a while now to get a 4runner, and a few days ago I finally did - I'm REALLY excited!. I ended up driving about 100 miles to pick it up and got a pretty good deal on it, so I thought. Upon getting it home I changed the oil and checked all the fluids and made sure everything seemed ok. Its a V6 4wd model SR5. A few small things were wrong with it, rear driver side window seems to be half slipped off the track, but the motor pushes it up, key locks are gummed up but overall it seemed great, no oil leaks, pressure seemed good, temp, radiator fluid wasn't rusty, etc..
I took it up to the store yesterday and when I got into 3rd gear and pressed the gas the RPM went up from about 2200 to 4k and the 4runner didn't get any faster, just high rpm.. I shifted into 4th and got the same thing, it eventually caught when I tried again and accelerated when I did it very gently. Now, when I got home from the store, I parked it on my slightly inclined driveway, while in 2nd gear (the ebrake didn't work).. The 4runner left 2nd gear and started to roll backawards, not sure if that is related to the gear slipping or not?
I have no idea if its the clutch, master/slave, or the transmission itself? Any ideas? I don't want to get scammed by any mechanics as the only reliable one I am familiar with is over 80 miles away where I USED to live, I am in Winter Springs FL now, not at the coast. I'd like to have a good idea as to what is going on with the gear problem before I approach someone to repair it.. I would be inclined to give it a try on my own, however I am a work at home, stay at home Dad with a 1 year old and have very little time for long projects like that.
Any help is appreciated!
Edit: Spoke to a friend and my Father they told me its probably the clutch, and will just get worse..
