Colby Emergency valve stem!

The Colby valve stem saved Me way more misery than the $18 it cost today when My wife had a valve stem snap off on the Freeway near Palm Springs in 116 degree weather! I went over in my work van and cut the stub off and pushed the old core into the rim, got the Colby out of her glovebox and lubed it a shot of handcleaner and it fit like a glove! Gave it some twists until it stopped and then pulled out my Viair 88P and pumped it to 45lbs and sent her on her way...I lost 2lbs in sweat but it beat changing a flat or triple A. I bought it for off-road but ended up needing it in town so just get one and throw it in the Truck!arty:

Awesome. I bought these a bit ago for off road insurance. I might now start storing in the glove box rather than the repair kit.

Yeah guys that's the one and I got 2 for $34 on Amazon and threw one in both Trucks glovebox so about $18 each all in. I pulled it back out this morning at 6AM (it was only 92 degrees!) and put shorty metal valve stems in all 4 tires......it was a pain popping the tires off the bead and swapping but I can't have the Wife breaking down again! 2 of the other stems were rotted half thru and about to go. These were some cheap Chinese stems they put in at America's Tire when the rims and tires were mounted.......never again! They were 2 years old and failed....I have had 20 year old Camel stems that still were solid?! It's 110 now but I should be good for years....and I put the Colby back in the glovebox in case a rock wipes out a stem Off-Road.

these look good, i've used a similar product but it stuck out a lot further then these so it was at a lot of risk of being hit

how did she lose a stem on the freeway, road debris?

Chinese rubber only 2 years old and it rotted through to the point the centrifugal force finally folded it over and let all the air out......2 others were almost there. They had sharp ''cuts'' where the rubber was tearing from the spinning action. Must make the ''rubber'' out of dead slave laborers or something!:sad:

I've never had a valve stem fail, but this might be worth having just for the peace of mind when I'm out in the middle of nowhere.

isnt the TPMS part of the valve stem on a Gen 5?

I don't have TPMS but it is built into the stock stems......but if a rock takes out your stem you will still need one of these Colby stems to get you home without pulling the tire off the rim to insert a new stem. These are a quick fix to get you to a tire shop to dismount the tire and get a new TPMS installed. You can still finish the Trail and worry about it later!:cheers:

When i was off roading in raush. I managed to rip of my valve stem. My spare was locked and my keys were at home! I freaked out. But a buddy had these valve stems. Ever since then, I have a couple with me at all time!
