Nate, I would say October is probably going to be the end of the season on Holy Cross. Per traildamage, the elevation is 9,365 to 11,798 feet. At that elevation, first snow is in late Sept/early Oct. and it would only take one good storm to shut it down for the year.

Chinaman's is at 7,832 to 8,904 feet. You could probably run that one into November/December, depending on snowfall.

Thanks for the advice RE Mt. Antero... I've been curious about that one for a long time. I'd check it out, but I think TBuzz and I are going to try and find some fishing on Sunday before we head out.

You can check out Grizzly lake. Good sized alpine lake at the end of the trail. There is a decent sized obstacle at the beginning of the trail, after that it's just a bumpy rocky road to the top.

Otherwise if you're going up Antero, once you reach the false summit you can take a right and it drops back down into a valley and there is a nice fishing lake there as well. Think it might be Baldwin Lake? Maybe [MENTION=67615]Dirtco[/MENTION] can chime in on that one. I can't remember the name of it.

I'm thinking of joining you all. It'd be my first event...! With my schedule, I wouldn't be able to make it in until Friday afternoon, but it's still pretty tempting to go.

From what I've read it sounds like you guys are going to be doing Chinaman's on Saturday... Would you mind if I tagged along?

I checked it out on Google Earth, and you're correct re the name of the lake near Antero, it is called Baldwin. Thanks, man. I'll keep those two in mind.

I've been reading all about Chinaman's on Trail Damage... but I'm wondering if you have any personal experience with it? It seems like I should be able to make it as long as I pass some of the more difficult stuff.

Nick is pretty much right on with Holy Cross, you can run it into October. Fall is actually my favorite time to run it, the lower section of the trail is in the aspens and has a good amount of fall color.

French Creek is in the shade, so once the temps get below freezing and you get a couple snow storms the trail is pretty much shut down for the season. This picture is from November 17th.



Chinaman's you can pretty much run year round, it only gets snowed in a few times a year. You might run into a small amount of snow in the shade, but thats about it. I've ran it in January with very minimal snow.

There are plenty of trails you can run with a stock bumper (or no bumper for that matter), don't let that discourage you from making the trip.
