Compustar Remote Start for 3rd gen w/alarm

I jumped on this Compustar CS4905 bundle (https://www.bestbuy.com/site/compus...ion/9999300000000170.p?skuId=9999300000000170) for $260 from best buy which includes the following:

• DC3 Brain
• 2 way remote
• Installation

Anyone know if this is plug and play for a 2002 SR5? Compustar sells harnesses for newer vehicles.

Computar's website lists a v8 option for 2002 4runner, so I dont trust their aplication guide. I called bestbuy and the tech said he would need to see the car, but is guessing it is more of a hardwire versus a plug and play install. My car has the toyota alarm but it seems installed with wire t-taps leading to a relay bolted under the drivers side (I have a hard time believing this is how it came from the factory, could be dealer/port installed). I hesitate to touch any of that.

Anyone encounter all of this or have a successful installed system? I am leaning towards returning the kit unless its an easy install with low risk of fubaring up the car.

You're not going to find a "plug and play" car starter for your vehicle.

It will have to be cut and splice especially with the alarm system and/or chip key.

I've got a Compustar remote starter on mine and have no major issues. The only issue I have is that for some reason, the remote really doesn't work if I'm standing directly behind it. Thinking of upgrading the remote to see if that helps.

I followed the link and read some of the reviews there. If it was me, I'd simply returned it.

What did the review say? I am ignoring reviews which the customer walks in and bestbuy says cannot install.

You're not going to find a "plug and play" car starter for your vehicle.

It will have to be cut and splice especially with the alarm system and/or chip key.

I prefer a T-harness as given the age of the car, I would rather use that than splice and cut

1) Can this be installed without splicing and dicing? I dont know if want remote start bad enough to pay for someone to do that.
2) My factory alarm system has some splicing. Is this normal for 3rd gens? I am curious the integrity of the factory alarm install may be compromised with the addition and complexity of an added remote start system for use in conjunction. (I will post a picture later)

1. Sorry, no clue if it can be done. I'm sure it can, but it may be either super tedious or super expensive or a bit of both.

2. Alarms were also a dealer option, so if the original buyer bought one that didn't have one and wanted it, then the dealer would be the one to install it.

That unit will work on the 3rd gen .. BUT you will need the following:
1. Splice wires- this CANNOT be installed plug and play
2. Immobilizer bypass for the chip key - FORTIN EVO ALL worked for me
3. wire to the alternator to detect crank - timed crank on the 3rd gen is not reliable, adding crank time to the start sequence was not enough for starting on cold days
3. Alarm will work once a door is opened without a key or disarming
4. 12volt.com has a wiring colour diagram to assist

I installed a remote start on mines as i just wanted keyless entry ( I don't have the remote for the doors)

if you want to do this by yourself and can read a wiring diagram , it can be done , not that hard, hardest part is programming the bypass unit to detect the key.
I installed a simple CS800s model i got for $20 on Ebay.

if you don't know how to read a wiring diagram, and don't have a multimeter.. Stay away from this project and Avoid ANY .. ANY yellow wires when you go under the dash............

Problem is it's when I'm standing behind it and wanting to unlock the rear hatch, so it needs to be able to read two quick button presses.

OP, no one makes a plug and play remote start for your truck.

Very few if any aftermarket remote starts are plug and play for any vehicle.

The compustars are fine.

Problem is it's when I'm standing behind it and wanting to unlock the rear hatch, so it needs to be able to read two quick button presses.

I'm not sure what model Compustar I have, it was installed 8 years ago when FutureShop still existed in Canada. When my system was installed, they placed the antenna in the top part of the driver side windshield. I was a little pissed at first, but man. I can start\arm\disarm my truck from a block away inside a house, second floor.

I also learned, that unlocking the doors before using remote start is a must if your planning a quick get away. It seems the remote start "locks" the system for a bit so pressing buttons in quick succession (ie. start, unlock) doesn't work, but unlock, start works quickly.

There are T-harnesses available for several vehicles, so for many, while not 100% plug and play, it greatly reduces the number of wires to trace and splice. I was hoping one would have been available for my vehicle so that bestbuy/geek squad wont have to do that exercise.

Though I have 60 hours in my stereo with soldered and heat-shrunk connections, I was not planning to do this install myself

Sadly, I have an anti-climatic end to all of this. Within the past 72 hours my battery died (put the new one in last night) and I discovered I have a busted axle seal. As the car sits for a few days/weeks until I can find a mechanic I trust (I have trust issues with anyone who touches my car), Bestbuy has a rather short return window (15 days), so this remote start bundle will go back and I will re-buy at a later time.

I just had a Compustar Pro R3 2Way 2 Mile installed on 11-24-18 and the thing starts from my desk in warehouse. 2012 4 runner Limited.
Other remote start I had, I would have to go upfront to lobby to start truck.2001 4 Runner.
Pricey with installation but warrantied as long as I own vehicle. Remotes are warrantied for only a year.The 2 way remote tells me when vehicle starts and how much time I have left running before shut down.
Yes it kills engine when you open door to your warm vehicle....oh well.

Cheap quality. Personally I will not run anything other than DEI products. Best in the industry, lifetime warranty. I've been in the audio world for 20 years and failures are extremely rare. That can't be said for the majority of the other companies out there.
