Considering a new 4runner

The 4runner's 4.0L engine has been around, in one form or another, for nearly 10 years now, so it's got a proven track record with regards to reliability and durability.

Frame, chassis was derived from the FJ Cruiser and Land Cruiser Prado. Again, proven track record.

Interior is somewhat bland (which some prefer) but short on fancy electronic gizmos, so there is little to worry about in terms of failures.

Overall, this vehicle has taken parts from a few different toyota platforms with proven performance histories, so there really should be no hidden surprises with regards to maintenance or breakdowns. Some of the newer 5th gen 4runners (2010-2012) has some service bulletins, not recalls, on a few things, but they don't seem to be widely common.

As for your price range, you should be able to find some SR5 models with decent mileage in the $20-$25k range. If you are looking for a trail or limited model, prepare to pay more.

Agreed the dealerships here in the midwest treat these things like they are made out of gold.

Although I found better prices in Iowa vs MN. I made a 4 hour drive down across the border to get my Limited...at a Chevy dealer.

I also noticed when I was looking that the Trails in MN seem to go for about the same as SR5's and even cheaper. I don't think the Trails are very popular up here.

Agreed. I actually had been looking for almost 8 months from Omaha, Des Moines, Kansas City with no luck. Ended up buying mine from Morries up in MN and drove home the next day. 4runners are already hard to find reasonably priced, yet alone trying to find a trail used around these parts.

got my CPO 2010 Limited for 26k in 2013, 45k miles

Sold it last month for 27k, was under 60k miles.

That's why I like 4runners though. Plus I'll do mods. I'm gonna get the pioneer when I get mine and link it up to a maestro. Gonna go balls to the wall when I get my new 4runner. I'm still stuck I'm debating between models. I really want full time 4wd but might have to get the trail with part time. Really wanting kdss too. But then again it all depends on the deal. I'm gonna start looking st in the NYC area though
