Considering going to a 4th gen 4wd from a 3rd gen

Hey guys, I have a 98 Limited with e locker and am thinking about going to the 4th gen 4wd. I am not new to 4Runners. I have had a 99 2wd, an 07 2wd and my 98. I also had a 98 Tacoma. I like my 98, but the 07 had a better ride, handled better, and had a lot more power. If I can find a 4th gen like I like, I may make the switch. What options should I look for. I do not want the XREAS as I want about a 2" lift.

I have a lifted 98 5 speed SR5 4x4, just recently purchased a 2006 V8 4x4 Sport Edition. I'd look for a V8, the power is nice and it gives you full time 4x4 with the locking center diff. Mine had XRAES that got removed after the lift. Wouldn't let that stop you if you're going to lift it anyway.

What November said. XREAS can be pulled out and swapped easily enough. The rear air bag might be something you want to avoid, though, since it makes lifting a little more difficult. I have it with my Bilstein 6112/5160 lift and I have no issues with it. Some people prefer coil springs, though. And yes, get the V8. It's way more fun.

Oh no, not in the 96, but I sure wish! I meant that I didn't need to get rid of my 3rd gen in order to have a 4th gen, I just have both vehicles. Sorry for the confusion.

I reslly should start a build thread for the 96 with how much I have done for it. And it's just the beginning for that. One day when I have time to slow down I will.
