It doesn't make sense to me why the water pump wouldn't have been changed if the timing belt was, but I'm sure even if Toyota recommended it and the ownerr didn't want to change it they wouldn't. If the car had the milkshake problem then it would also have a new radiator, te flush might have been done as preventive maintenance. Regardless try to find out if it had been changed or not.
Good luck it looks nice, if you can find one private seller you will have better chances of scoring it at a lower price. But down south is harder to find an awd truck than up north.

Also it's close to 20k miles ago when the flush was done, so even if it had the milkshake it may have been cleaned out properly and in time if it lasted that long.

Ok good, I'm just so worried of getting a new car and having problems. I have a 1998 ford explorer that has 190,000 miles and its started to act funny just like the transmission shifts hard sometimes and there is a leak that the mechanic said if he fixed it he cant guarantee that it would stop leaking due to the age, but so far it has treated me well with no major issues. I know that the 3rd gen 4runners are reliable and i know the milkshake issue is rare, but with my luck it would happen.

i understand, just go ahead and put a transmission cooler on the car if you purchase it and bypass the radiator cooler, i did it on my car as soon as i bought it, when i finally end up replacing it the radiator I'll run it inline with the cooler for maximum cooler, but so far it's been a week and the external cooler has kept the transmission under 185.
