Constant Clicking Sound After Brake Pad Replacement

Hey everyone, it’s been a long time since posting here but the tracking of wheel well noises calls for your help!

So, my passenger side brake pads started squeaking when braking last week and I went ahead to replace them today with Wagner thermoquiet pads. Getting on the road to test everything out tonight I immediately notice an equally annoying constant clicking noise coming from the passenger side. The clicking doesn’t stop when braking and it seems to match its RPM to my speed. Has anyone come across this after changing brake pads or in general? The Wagner brake pads were advertised as not needing the shims which I didn’t reinstall if that could be related. But the issue isn’t present on the driver side.

Any pointers or ideas would be greatly appreciated!

I'd recommend adding the shims in there just to see if it prevents the clicking sound. It seems to be like something is sticking or poking out of place or maybe even experiencing some slight movement back and forth. Add the shims back and take it for a test drive and update us then.

Is the spring clip rubbing on the disk?

I doubt it the dust shield hitting the rotor as that be constant. Very good call on clip as they can tick if not snapped in place.

Thanks for the advice guys. Luckily I kept the shims and after reinstalling both with a bit of silicone brake grease the issue seems to be resolved. I’ll give it a test drive again tomorrow but fingers crossed I won’t have to worry about any strange sounds on my 1000 mile journey to Utah this week So for anyone installing Wagner TQ brake pads I’d recommend using the original shims as well!

I notice my CV axles click at full droop when I spin the front wheels (when on jack stands.) Possibly a bad cv axle?

You brought up what I was going to mention. CV axles click when they go bad. A dead give-away is making really tight turns, like making tight circles in a parking lot. If it's clicking bad on a left turn, it's the right CV axles that is bad. If it's clicking bad on a right turn, it's the left CV axle that is bad. The reason is, the outside wheel is turning faster and getting the most load on it weight-wise, because the weight of the vehicle is transferred to the outside of the turn.
