Consumer Reports April Issue

I got my April Auto issue of Consumer Reports. No real big surprises for the 4Runner. Yes, they recommend it and yes it is well above average in reliabilty.

What I think is new, is parts of the issue is on-line to non-members. Some of it you have to be a member, but a lot of it, you can see. Things like Top picks, Who makes the best cars?, New Car Preview (Nothing about the new 4Runner), 2009 car safety features and much more.

I just finished reading my copy (paper) of the Arpil issue. It's funny, but out of all the SUVs that I like, the 4Runner is the only one that is reliable, according to CR's ratings. The LR3 (and all other Land Rovers) were basically very unreliable. Just about every Jeep product (including the Commander) were also unreliable.

I think the 4Runner is just about the only capable 4wd SUV that is reliable, other than the FJ Cruiser.

I thought it was interesting that they gave the "Overall road test score" of the Toyta FK Cruiser of only 36. The Jeep Wrangles gota 17. Top score is a 100. This has nothing to do with reliabilty, just the road test.

The 4Runner has the highest score of any body on frame mid size SUV. They say the highs for the 4Runner are "Quitness, powertrain, off-roading, towing, cargo volume, reliabilty". The lows are "Fuel economy". By the way, they give a ovearll score of 66. The Highlander gets a 86, it is the top mid size SUV, if you can call it a SUV.

Toyota Sienna: "Toyota Sienna

Acura TSX did not do anything spectacular, but it did get on CR's LEAST expensive car to own! I guess that is something good to look forward to.

I saw that. It is getting much better, of course it does say last year, all models scored below aveage, now they are better. Your 2004 is well, in the older section.

Still, I am glad they are doing better, I have always like Mercedes-Benz.

Was the G part of the poor reliabiliy group or was it the 'one' reliable model in a bad time (for Mercedes) and you're happy because as public perception about the brand improves so does the value of the '04 G-wagon?
