Coolant question...

So I just got back from a road trip Florida to Nashville for my brothers birthday, while up there we noticed a small leak under the truck,(Antifreeze)took it to the Chevy dealer where my brother works as a salesman and they determine the water pump was bad,a job I probably would’ve done at home but decided to let them do it as well as the timing belt while they were in there,got the labor at half price,Long story short after returning I looked up the anti-freeze that they used saying it was better than what I had (Prestone)So I googled AC Delco Dex-cool and found out it’s a GM brand with problems, on the way back my scangauge was reading 198° where as before it was always at 190° I don’t know if that’s from the replacement thermostat, anyway I plan on flushing it and replacing it with Toyota red just wondering how important it would be for me too be sure that it’s completely clean and could I have other problems with this stuff?Thanks...

I wouldn't worry about it. Drive few months and do a flush if you want.
What chemicals are in the GM branded coolant?
The amount of water is the key for cooling. Water has the highest specific heat capacity 1 cal/1.0X1C so more water can cool faster and if the dealer used 60 Coolant and 40 water the readings you are looking at should be correct. For a 50:50 mixture you might get lower temperatures in the scan gauge. Since your area never freezes, you can use higher water percentage as well.

If it was me, I'd get that dex cool crap out asap and have your brother smack the tech who put it in your truck. Make sure you get ALL of it out. And while your flushing it out, I'd pull the thermostat and make sure the jiggler valve is in the 6:00 position. There are lots of threads on here about how the valve position makes a difference in operating temp. I saw a 10ish degree drop when I did my thermostat and put it in the wrong position first, and then swapped it.

did they put the jiggle valve on thermostat at 6 o'clock. cause most vehviles it goes in at 12 o'clock but toyota specifies it to be at 6 o'clock. that would cause engine to run hotter. flush it with distilled water and then fill it with toyota red.

I would say a flush is pretty important. I just flushed mine out with a hose and had a TON of rust and sediment wash out, it looked like chunky chocolate milk.

Dexcool is the one type of coolant that doesn't play nice with the rest.
I once swapped in Dexcool in place of standard Prestone-type green, and the result was a nice radiator clean out job about a week later.
