Could this be the new 4Runner?

Oh god, if they do end up replacing the 4Runner with this I will cry for weeks... It is getting close for a 5th Gen. 4Runner to emerge... Just hope it's not the Fort-Runner..

Yeah I am not a fan of that specific 5th gen model. I hope that is not the final outcome.

They need to make the 5th gen 4R stand out from the car based highlander and rav4 and build more for the truck-based vehicle. I swear the new Highlanders look just like the 4R's now.

I would love to see them lift the 4R to clear 12". The 4th gen 8.whatever" clearence just kills me it is so low. If you want to lift it more, you risk losing valuable technology.

Maybe take some cues from the Rubicon: tougher axles/suspension, 33" m/t tires (I would prefer 35" tires stock...probably too ambitious), maybe a removable top for those sunday drives.

There is so much potential to make this 5th gen truck SUV stand out, but as far as the pix go....someone is dropping the ball.

The 4Runner is never going to go back to being more off road capable than they are now since Toyota doesn't have to market them that way to sell but the Highlander model has encroached on 4runner sales since they are a bit more practical for the street.

Obn the other hand the 4runner should marketable or at least have an off road edition (clearance,5 speed and diff lock from the FJ and a few other rugged options) so it can still maintain it's heritage but the FJ seems to be Toyota's toy for that and it is possible the 4Runner could be the odd man out and be discontinued for a few years but I doubt this would happen.

I lived worked in Dubai for about 6 months last year and saw the Fortuner and Prado EVERYWHERE!

It took me a while to figure out, but the Fortuner is the same chasis, I believe, as the Lexus RX. It only comes with their small 3.0L V6 and is small comared to the 4R. While I like it's looks, I'd rather have a Prado/4R. It won't be the next 4R, I would expect the 4R to keep it's size based on all the other Toyota SUV's in the line up. I just don't see it really getting any larger or smaller.

I swear the new Highlanders look just like the 4R's now.

What are you smoking?
If that was true, I just might consider getting a Highlander.

The next generation 4Runner could end up looking like the Highlander....

:iagree:

The back of the second gen Sequoia looks just like the second gen Highlander. Mistaken a few second gen Sequoias for a Highlander until I looked again.

It sure seems Toyota is trying to turn their whole lineup vanilla and keep the styling looking the same which they seem to think america likes.

I've seen a concept "FJ Runner" in recent issues of Landcruiser magazine (JDM market). It has the same type of doors as the FJC, but front and windshield look like it's from a FJC, rear side quarter looks like the current 4runner (there were no pics of the rear).

If this is what I think it is it's not the future 4Runner. I actually saw one of these parked in front of someone's home in the Turks and Caicos a few months back. Took a minute to really look it over. Looks almost just like the Lexus. It's definitely more luxurious.
