Couple issues I need help with...

Okay guys we just got our 4Runner at the auction for cheap. I have a couple minor things I need to fix and I already have most of them done, but two issues.

Issue 1, When the drivers and passanger doors are shut my window binds when they are half way down and they pop. Now when either front door is open they open and close just fine... Any ideas of what I can check or look at?

Issue 2, We only got 1 key when we bought it. The key is one of the Ingenuity universal keys. The security imobolizer light keeps blinking when we are driving around. Was the key maybe not programed right? We are going to get a couple more keys of ebay or amazon so we have spares, but I didnt understand why the light is blinking. We didnt get a key fob either, not sure if that could be an issue as well.

For the window issue, you could try lubing the window tracks with some silicone spray. It is strange that that they work fine when the door is open, the other option is to take off the door panels and see if the windows are binding up on the rubber seal trim that goes along the top of the door panel. Otherwise, your window motors may be going bad.

As for the key, it sounds like the key is not programmed or doesnt' have a chip. I would get toyota oem keys and get those programmed
 
Was the vehicle in an accident? Check the VIN number stickers on all of the body panels, doors, fenders etc. Perhaps the doors need adjusted or something? Never heard of popping windows only when the doors are closed.

Somewhere around here there is a thread about programming keys (search for that term). It has a lot of good info on which key is the master key (black), which is the valet key (gray. What they do, how/where to buy new ones. How to program replacements etc. I've never heard of an ingenuity key. If you don't have a master OEM key, you may end up having to get a new ECU (I could be wrong about that).

I think that your doors are closing to tightly. Can you close the doors easily (rest door against latches then push gently listening for two clicks) if not then doors are out of adjustment. Second thing could be doors have been re skinned (replaced outer sheet metal) and not welded properly cause window frame to flex while door is closed. adjustment may help. be aware if doors are not tight enough you will get wind noise and/or water leaks.
 
Thanks everyone. From what I found out from a toyota service guy is that they can cut me a new key that will work without having the master. He thinks something might be wrong with the key we have.

Door wise ya nothing shows up on the carfax but that doesnt mean anything. I will have to do some more looking at it after Isaac rolls thru.
I will keep you all posted.
 
Okay so this morning I went out and played with the doors for a couple mins. I noticed that the front doors do take a little more force to hear that second click when the doors are completely shut. Does anyone if adjusting the doors will will help that? If so how can i adjust them?
 
I had a similar problem happen on an older Toyota Matrix in regards to your window issue.

Take the panel off the door and keep the master switch plugged in, then close the door and roll the windows up and down and do it with the door open. If it is similar to what I saw back then, you'll notice the door stay rod (that rod that holds the door open so it doesn't shut on itself) is nicking the corner of the window glass and or frame when it is going up and down.

I'm not a 100% sure why this happens, I only saw it once on that Matrix and that vehicle was not in an accident but had a lot of miles on it.

If its not that oddball issue, I'd check for tightness of the glass to the regulator and inspect the regulator for binding.

What did you do to fix the issue with the door stay rod?
 
I never found out why, but for some reason or a another a corner of the actual metal portion of that rod was contacting the edge of the glass as it went up and down causing it to "pop." Customer didn't live locally and didn't want to buy a new part so I gently ground a 1/4" off the end of the rod and made sure it still worked like it was supposed to and it fixed the issue.

You were dead on BlackWorksInc. The rod was the whole problem. Got it all fixed and taken care off. Thanks Everyone for the help!!
