Cracked Rear Diff (2000)

Hi Everyone,

I apologize for starting a new thread like this but I have 248,000 miles on my 2000. Just found out I have a cracked rear diff and its leaking all over the brakes. Might need a new axle too.

Really bummed on this and any advice is greatly appreciated


Do I:

A. Sell "as is"
B. Shop around for best price on replacing rear diff and brakes
C. Try to do it myself (not really an option as I can't where I'm living)

If there is a better thread to ask this, please let me know.

If you like the runner I say option B if that's basically all that's an issue. Don't mention an option you're unwilling to do lol

Sounds more like a rear axle seal than a "cracked diff" (whatever that is?) if it's leaking on your brakes...

Relatively easy job if you're mechanically inclined and have the tools/space/desire to work on it. Insurmountable impossibility if you don't. Good luck!

I agree with the above post. If its all over the drums and shoes then your breather is clogged and the seals let go.

Who told you that the diff was cracked? Like the others said, 99.9% of the time diff fluid in the drums is from a leaky rubber axle seal. It's a common thing on high mileage vehicles.

Some pictures would help immeasurably. Rear axle seals aren't bad.
