Cranking Issues - Fuel Pump (supposedly)

I just bought a 1998 4runner sr5 V6 4x4 with 158,000 miles. If it has been sitting for a while, it has a problem cranking. When you put the key in and turn it over, the engine just turns over and will not catch. If you turn the key off and do it again, it starts perfectly. The salesman said it was the fuel pump not engaging electronically or something like that. I am wondering if this is a common problem and what is the best way to take care of it. It starts fine, so I don't think it is a terrible problem, but I would like to fix it.

I am almost positive it is your fuel pump. Gerdo just diagnosed and fixed his. Read through these threads:
