Crazy to buy at '05 with 329K miles on it??

New to this forum. Have wanted to purchase a 4th gen 4Runner so have been watching. One has come up that is one-owner, pristine, perfectly maintained at the dealer but the catch is the 329K miles on it. Owner was a salesman, constantly on the road, works out to about 100 miles a day.
Is it crazy to consider such a purchase? It will be a second car, used for towing. Not driven much except for hauling the trailer camping. It's a Limited, V8 4.7L.
Thoughts?

Why not get a crew cab/single cab 1500 or something if all you want to be able to do is haul a small trailer? Do you have a family you're keeping in mind or something?

Not necessarily trying to steer you away from a 4runner.

I agree with RinkMan07, wouldn't a used pick-up be better for Towing?

If the price is really low for that 4Runner I'd say pick it up at your own risk. 300k is a bit u there for a used vehicle, but they do hold up well when they are taken care of.

A pickup won't work due to passengers and dogs. Friends have the '06 and love it for towing.
I think we could get the '05 mentioned above for just over $9K. However, we are still nervous about such high miles, though have heard great things about the ability of the 4Runner to just keep going if well maintained. Don't want to but it and then have it fall apart around us due to the high mileage and things wearing out.

For the price and mileage I would look elsewhere. Just keep looking and you'll find a good deal.

I've seen plenty of vehicles over 300k miles and still running like a top but eventually something is gonna give. Personally I would pass on that particular one because I'm sure you can find a similar price on an 03-04 with lower miles.

At the right price with service records, why not? You get to test the reaction of people when you show them the odo too.

An 05 with 325K for $9K, NO WAY. I was thinking more like $4 to $5K at the most. I bought my 03 for $10,500 two or three years ago with just over 90k on it. You just have to keep looking. I found mine when I quit looking, but just kept my eyes open and found it on Craigslist.

If I was the owner of the one with 325K on it, I would keep with pride and hope to get 500K out of it. It's really should be worth more to him than to somebody looking to buy one. I don't care what kind of shape it's in, it's not worth any where near $9K.

if its just for towing, buy a truck. buy the crewmax tundra, you'll be thoroughly impressed.

theres a huge difference between a truck and a suv with a v8. The 4runners tow very well, but a truck is a truck

Look around you can and will find a much better deal then that. I bought my old 04 v8 4runner with 65k for $11,000 4 years ago. I got a great deal on that admittedly but my current 4runner and 06 sport with 89,000 miles i paid 13,000 for.
I would pay $4,500 with that many miles.

I just bought my 03 ltd V8 for 7K. It has162k on it.

This one I would be proud to say, I put all these miles on, did all the maintenance on, and it keeps ticking and takes a licking.

But, for starting out, with my family and going on adventures, would search for one with less millage on it, or as others stated, go for a truck as they are designed for what you are using it for.

I just did a KBB on the vehicle and amazingly it comes in at over $10,000 even with all those miles, It's nice owning a vehicle with such a good resale value. And having that many miles on it, he has obviously taking very well care of the vehicle. But it's just to high to pay for a 4runner with that many miles.

Thank you everyone. Your advice will be well taken.....and I will take a pass on the high mileage '05 at that price and continue searching. Interesting though, prices on used 4Runners seem to be higher in Western Washington than in other parts of the country. As I've been watching on Craiglist and other website, prices are consistently higher here. I guess either demand is high and/or inventory is low.
