Cross shop the Sequoia vs the 4runner?

Did anyone cross shop the Sequoia when shopping for the 4runner? If I was totally honest with my needs, the Sequoia probably would have fit my needs better (more interior space, better towing, v8, etc) , but i just didn't love the look/vibe of it so never really gave it a serious consideration.

May take a look at the redesign if and when it comes out, perhaps coupled with the new tundra, but who really knows what the future will hold.

Curious people's thoughts on how the two stacked up in everyones mind.

Sequoia didn't really hit me as an "off-road" vehicle. Which is what I was looking for. Kinda bulky, and overall aesthetic didn't really grasp me. 4runner looks very rugged, and more my style. Sequoia seems like a great vehicle though.

I agree the look didn't do it for me either, and ultimately why it didn't get more than a quick thought.

I did watch that a couple months ago, I really enjoy the straight pipes guys videos. They ultimately thought the same as me , 4runner way cooler, but why Toyota didn't stuff the v8 and 6 speed in the 4runner is just dumb.

after seeing a few in person with a few mods i do regret not even checking them out. have they updated the motor/tranny at all though? my dad's tundra was a tank and never had issues but it also got 10mpg with just a leveling kit and 33's.

the updated front ends are nice, but the rest of it is meh

But I would say that the resale value for the 4Runner is better and probably easier to sell as a private party than the fullsize Sequoia. If you look at some of the older Sequoia’s they can be had for cheaper than the 4Runners with same year and mileage.

But I guess it all depends if you need the extra room and towing capacity, then the Sequoia is the way to go.

The Sequoia drivetrain has been the same for like 15 years, and yeah seems like 10-15 mpg is about all you can hope for .

To me it just looks "fat"

the 1st gen armadas were borderline as bad but nissan added some sharp lines to the fenders etc and really helped. If it's more in line with what you need i'm sure it'd work great. the 4runners are small and slow af.:shrug:

I know. Just the first 5 minutes of that video was them talking about size of the "pro" emblem on the liftgates and etc.

We just got my gf a 2008 sequoia with 150k for around 12k. Cheapest we found. Seqouia are way more expensive, but super roomy and comfortable

Odd, when I was searching for Seqouias here in NorCal a few years ago, I was finding them cheaper than comparable 4Runners. Haven’t looked lately so maybe that has changed.

When I was buying the 4R and was waiting for paperwork to be done, went and sat in a Sequoia and also Land Cruiser. You know, for later possibilities.

Surprisingly they both had LESS headroom as my head was brushing the ceiling, even with the seat all the way down. So yes, cross shopped but super happy with what I have.

The Sequoia is a nice ride but not an off road vehicle. I believe the new one has IFS front and rear? The space is nice but at the same time living is an ever expanding suburbia parking is getting tight on anything larger than Fiat around hear. For those two reasons I went with the 4runner.

If you want the comfort and wont be rock crawling get the limited or the Lexus GX.

So it depends if you want space over off road ability.

Just spend the extra cheddar and jump to a LC. As others have noted, the SUQuoia is a minivan for uppity karens. Not to mention they look as attractive my dog’s ******* with shit hanging out of it.

The Sequoia comes off as trying to bump up its fuel economy with all the aero skirting and sitting lower. Plus, as far as I know, it is made in the USA. While I try to buy US made goods, I trust the longevity of a Japanese built Toyota over one made here. Sad but true.
