CS144 swap - High Voltage?

My 4runner started an intermittent "Battery" light last week.
I got my parts together and swapped to the CS144.

Now I'm getting 14.4 - 14.5 volts.
How long until I fry everything?

How long has it ran with the higher voltage? Maybe your battery is low and its just charging it as 14.4 to 14.5 isn't supper high. Fully charged should be around 13.8volts.

The batt light had been intermittent. It was running 13-14 V with the old alt.

Do you think the computer will iron this out by itself? I've only had one test drive since install. Of course the battery was disconnected in the process.

14.5V won't fry anything in the truck. Automotive electronics are usually rated to 16V and sometimes higher. American manufacturers often have higher charging voltages than Japanese manufacturers - at least with old 'dumb' alternators like the CS1xx alternators.

Also, charging voltages are higher in colder weather (even the OEM Denso will supply up to 14.8V when very cold - all the way down to 13.6 or lower in very hot weather).

How cold was it when you started it and it made 14.7v? How long did you run it before shutting it off? 14.7v might be normal if it's 45ºF out and you only ran it for 10 minutes. I know that AGM batteries can accept 14.7V when it's cold without damage, don't know about flooded lead acid (FLA).
For the last few months, my stock 80A alt (with added voltage boosting diode/resistor thingy)has been giving 14.7V when first started and for the first 5 or 10 minutes of running without damaging the vehicle electrics.

Thats with my OBD reading and it matches my Fluke.

When I first started up to leave, it spiked to 14.8V a split second then settled down to 14.4-14.5.
I turned on my brights and it dropped to 13.8 for a split second, then back to 14.4-14.5V.

If anyone is doing this, and you need to get your spacer washers on your top bolt, I discovered that you can use your adjustment bolts, a washer, and a crescent wrench to move that bushing on the top hole, giving you the room you need to get it all in.

Just have your crescent adjusted larger than the bushing but smaller than the washer and crank the nut.

Your voltage it totally normal for that CS series Alt. I prefer that voltage over Denso’s VR settings.

Enjoy a higher state of charge with your upgrade.
