cummings diesel

so I just met a guy with one of the nicest 1st gens I have seen. not stock and he has done all the work himself. He is on this forum ( in 1st gen) and is camping here at my park, not allowed to say who he is because he is a customer.

I bring this up because his next project is to convert it to the new Cummings R2.8 turbo diesel. I have read where people want to do this in 3rd gens. Convert to diesel ....and have read about Toyota conversions, even dropping in a vw turbo diesel
If you look it up, ( I could not get link to attach) its listed under Cummings repower engines. The HP and torque are amazing. It comes with everything needed and will pass all new current pollution laws etc if you use their kit.
He said the only thing he has to figure out now is what tranny and transfer case. He said it is cheaper then paying what some charge to convert our 3rd gens to Toyota diesel and he said that when a Toyota diesel dies, your waiting for parts to be imported.

I'm going to pass this to my son as well, as I am part owner of his lifted taco with dana locker axles etc and we have talked about some kind of diesel as the 22re just does not cut it.

anyway....just throwing that out there

A lot of torque but only 160HP, great for a 1st or 2nd gen. Get rid of that crappy 3.0. From what I've read they're marketed more to the Jeep crowd.
They are cool though.

I'd rather buy a hot rod 3RZ from LCE. You can have them built from 200 to 800 HP. Personally I'd keep it stage 1 or 2 so its streetable. I'm not going to be racing my 4runner on the track anytime soon. ;-)

I think the biggest step in that whole swap is going to be spelling out the company name correctly.

Seen a 4BT in an Explorer. Ran pretty well. I'd be curious to know how heavy the 2.8 is. I still like the 2uz as the motor to be swapped into the 3rd gen.

My co worker bought a Colorado with the 2.8 Duramax in it. Not a coal roller by any means, a little slow, but tows well and gets 30mp+ on the highway. If it were only a little cheaper....
