cummings diesel

It's not like there isn't any double entendre in the other main pickup diesel engine names.

Powerstroke
Duramax
Cummins

Sheesh, get a room already!

The R2.8 repower sounds pretty neat... but I ahven't seen a price yet. I've looked occasionally. Some people are guessing at 6 or 7 thousand bucks? Not counting the other parts to get it put into your truck (trans adapters, mounts, that final 10% of little bits that takes 90% of the time and effort).

Well they power vehicles that people purchase as daily drivers to make up for having small wangs.

And while I do also think a diesel 4Runner would be neat, and occasionally go eyeball various 25+ year old gray market import RHD diesel Fj70's and 80's on eBay, I have to say that it's probably not a great use of money to put $7000 worth of Cummins Repower diesel into a 3rd gen. Becuase the alternative is to just replace your worn out 5VZ with a nice used junkyard 5VZ. That's something you can accomplish in a weekend (one day if you're good with tools and don't spend 45 minutes looking for that *&#$ 12mm socket after it drops to the garage floor, bounces, and ends up in a parallel universe full of 10 and 12mm sockets and single socks). And then you can spend that leftover 6 or 7 grand (who knows how much it would cost to get mounts and trans adapters and power steering and A/C hooked up and working on a Cummins) driving the 5VZ for the next 5 - 10 years.
