DAC question...

While I was driving home from work this evening, I found myself pondering the DAC button in my runner. I haven't used it yet, haven't had ocasion to.

I was wondering, does anyone know if the DAC works in reverse? Let me explain. Say you're climbing a particularly steep or technical incline, and for whatever reason, you can't make it to the top and you need to bail. When you shift to reverse to back down, could you engage the DAC to control your descent?

Stop pondering and drive the frikin truck. Figure it out and come back and tell us what IT does as opposed to asking if it might.

Been a while since I read the manual on this, but pretty sure that it only works while in 4lo.

o lets just go down a big ass 60 degree hill without pressing the brakes! great idea! haha i would be so scared just not pressing the brake sounds crazy. lol

I did RTFM but i didn't see anything about using DAC in reverse.

Great advise though, yes I will drive the truck, but with my first child only a week or two away, Momma would get pretty pissed at me leaving her for a trip to the woods lol!

Downhill if there are no large obstacles that need to be stopped at, or while coming down off of, yes perfect time to not use the brakes.

4Low, "L" foot off gas, and engine compression does it's magic. You could use DAC if you want. I've tried both. You just need to try it a few times, to get the feel for it. It will lunge the first second or two, then engine compression or DAC catches it and keeps a steady speed down. I think best with just engine compression since DAC will use the brakes, maybe too much and heat them up.

When you touch the brakes, you slow it down or stop the truck completely DAC or engine compression will need that 1-2 seconds agains to catch it going down. Feels like you lost control, you just need to try it, know how it reacts to feel comfortable with it.

I try as much as possible to rely on just 4Low and engine compression and no brakes as long as the rock obstacles are under my clearance or I can put my tires on them.

Me an a fellow member tried it out a little last time at uhwarrie, there's one good hill in particular that's extremely steep with tons of loose dirt and small rocks. I attempted to use mine and there's no way I felt comfortable allowing the truck to do the braking and engine control so about a 1/4 of the way down the decent i turned it of and used low 4lo and controlled the decent myself much more comfortable lol. it is a weird feeling but it does work. as stated above it's only in 4lo and depends on what gear your in 1 gear has preset speeds you have to be below for the DAC to start working as well as 2 gear, 3rd gear, 4th gear, etc.. I havn't found a need for it personally my buddy said when he used it he couldnt bring himself to let off the brake so it doesnt seem practical, you would essentialy have to come up to a decent knowing its going to be sketchy, then activate the DAC engage 4lo, and then select the gear you want to keep the speed under then just roll down the hill counter steering and allowing the ECU to apply brakes. just not my driving style really

Plus it clatters alot if I remember right. I haven't used it in some time.

Actually even with my 1st gen...no DAC, I will come off rock ledges that are higher than my grill going up...just being in 4Low, 1st gear. If I have a decent lenght before the ledge the engine compression catches it and controls it smoothly all the way off the ledge. But if I touch the brakes the compression is lost and it jerks around as the compression kicks in again. I might use the brakes to ease the rear wheels off so if my rear bumper hits it would be a slow hit.
