I'm not sure if you're in high school or college. You don't have to tell me. Just going to put things in perspective of a parent.
How are you doing in school? Grades at a level that's satisfactory to your parents, test scores are good, admission to (attending) a university they'll be happy about, etc. How are things at home? You help out with chores, keep things clean, everything else around the house is organized, etc. How are your friends? Are they a positive influence on you, the serious type, potential trouble makers, they come around to your house blasting music, etc.
I do agree that socializing and having friends is important, but parents want their kids to do the most important things now that will ensure they'll have a successful future.
I know this is
not what you want to hear, when you get older, you'll thank them for their guidance. I wish my parents pushed me a lot harder when I was young. I see my uncle and aunt do it to my little cousins and I'm going to do the same for my children. (There's also a rotten apple or two in the bunch who's parents give them free reign, quite frankly, it's sad, disgusting that we're some how related. :toilet

I dropped out of Saturday school not studying a foriegn language when I was little. Where I am, foriegn language is required for high school graudation and a few extra years for university admissions. Had I stayed in Saturday school, it would've been a walk in the park for foriegn language class and I could've spent time studying for another class or hanging out with friends instead, and now take on expatriate job positions. I'm far from a nerd, maybe just above average, mostly B+'s to an A-'s for many classes. I flunked a couple courses in college too.
You can reason with them, but if your folks are paying for your car, your expenses and you're living under their roof, you're going to have to play by their rules.
BTW, maybe he's punishing you for breaking his mirror. My apologies, if I'm mistakening you for another member.
