Damn Flashing Seatbelt Light

Can anyone shed some light on the issue I'm having?

No pressure on seat + not buckled = no light

No pressure on seat + buckled = no light

Pressure on seat + not buckled = blinking light

Pressure on seat + buckled = blinking light


To me, this rules out the pressure switch in the seat. Correct?
I've wiggled the two wires coming out of the bottom of the buckle, but no change.



Where does the problem lie?

Pressure switch in the seat, buckle sensor, or grounding wire??


It's rather irritating, especially when the low fuel light is flashing at a different interval. Even more so when it's dark. Lol

I cant see it being the pressure plate because it would either flash with no weight no matter what or never flash. i would lean toward the buckle sensor and i dont know for sure but i would assume that it would ground out when buckle is in so i would trace the wire back and you may find a broken wire or a bad ground connection.
I am no toyota tech. but that is where i would start.

assuming toyota is the same, the seat weight sensor and seatbelt sensor are wired in series. when the seat has pressure on it, it sends power through to the seatbelt sensor. if it isnt buckled, it creates an open circuit which causes the light. the problem is something to do with the seatbelt sensor. i would check the ground wire and power wire coming off of it. the back side of the sensor should be open enough that you can stick a very small voltmeter/ohmeter probe into each wires connecting point and test to see if both wires have power going through. its also possible the sensor connector has just worked itself loose

I went out to do some more troubleshooting earlier this evening and what do you know. It acted normal, then started blinking, then continued acting normal...

It started off intermittent, but the past week has for the most part been blinking all the time.

Anyways, I went digging around under the seat to trace the wiring. The two wires go from the buckle to the front center of the seat. They clip into a little black connector. This connector is routed back to a bigger white clip which then goes through the floor.

I unconnected the white plug and no seatbelt light in any configuration.

I wiggled the plugs around and tugged firmly on the two wires from the buckle (and any other wiring) with no luck.


I'll try the multimeter tomorrow.


Side question.
Will the airbag work if the light is blinking? Like the passenger seat?

Airbag will still work just fine. Only system affected by seatbelt light is two stage airbags and you ride doesn't have that.
